I asked my friend, “Do you want to play with me?” It said nothing but only wagged its tail, flopped its ears, and leaned on me. Yes, my only entrusted friends on the streets. My friends who live on the streets and who protect me and my home when I am not around. My friends, that guard me when I find myself in any vulnerable situation. They are always there. But why only we celebrate them on April 4 every year, when we can celebrate them every day.
APRIL 4- WORLD STRAY ANIMALS DAY
April 4, the day that marks an important day for street animals. But why is that, street animals have always been a matter of concern for everyone? Street animals are never a matter of concern but the brutality and inhumanity encountered by those poor creatures seem to be an ordeal. They are just like us, like you and me. They do not ask for anything but love and care. Is that too much to offer? Unlike humans, they are not given any choice of the food that would like to eat or the kind of shelter they would like to accommodate. They are left without options and can do nothing but starve till death.
It is awful to see my homeless friends look for food near the bins, garbage from amongst the leftover rotten food that is being wasted by humans who fail to value what they can easily afford. Why is it so? Don’t they deserve to be treated equally, with love and care?
LET’S SHOW HUMANITY
We all are creations of God. We have been created and having been lived on Earth for many years. We all are at par. Let’s show some humanity to these creatures. They cannot speak but the way they express their love is totally commendable. A famous quote that says, ‘Dogs are human’s best friend’, yes they truly are. If we shower love, kindness, empathy upon them, undoubtedly, they return it in the best possible way they can.
Most of the time we hear cases of street animals being beaten to death for no fault of theirs. Humans are at a dominating state but this does not allow them to show their dominance over these creatures. If one cannot love them, it is alright but they do not deserve to be treated that way. They never harmed you, why do you harm them?
WHAT CAN BE POSSIBLY DONE TO SHOW HUMANITY?
ADOPT, ADOPT, ADOPT….
If you are looking for a pet, WAIT. Look around the street, there are so many. Adopt any, who needs help, or who is injured. Undoubtedly, they will come to your rescue whenever you need them. They would follow you wherever you go to ensure you are guarded at all times. Make him a part of your family, rather a family who ought to stay with you for a lifetime.
LOOK AFTER HIM LIKE A BABY
It is of no surprise that pet lovers treat their pets like their own kids, as they deserve to be treated as a family. Studies show that the mothers said that they felt the same levels of happiness when they saw a photo of their and a photo of their pet.
FEED, FEED, FEED…
Imagine it’s summertime and the temperature soars to around 40 degrees. How would you feel if you are working under the sun without any access to food or water? Thinking about it makes me feel dizzy. No wonder, our street friends go through this every day... It is a challenge for them to accomplish on a daily basis, to find food and water. SO, let’s feed our friends, and protect them from eating the leftover food near the bins, that invites several diseases which may be a cause of their death. Certain pointers to be kept in mind while feeding stray animals:
You must be consistent in feeding stray animals, on a spot that has been chosen by you and which makes it easier for them to have access to it. Always keep water in handy and ensure that it is clean at all times. Avoid too spicy and too sweet meals for them, as it can cause irritation in their body.
EACH ONE CAN SAVE ONE
If you see any case of animal cruelty, stop and act. There is no kindness in ignorance. Though there are many organizations that fight for animal rights, if we, on an individual level together, fight for this cause, it will surely make a difference.
However, if you encounter any stray animal, who is injured, or needs help, or needs any kind of ailment, you must act accordingly:
Provide temporary shelter
Contact community, animal center
Look around for a vet
Arrange for some food, water, and a blanket
If you are willing to adopt one, make sure they are vaccinated and ensure proper hygiene at all times. Immunization makes them secure against common diseases by vaccination. Adoption of stray animals allows them to live a happy and healthy life with a loving family.
LET’S DO IT!
A letter to all my furry friends,
We know, you are so much in pain, fear, and fright. Pain experienced by you all is unimaginable; you go through it every day. They are so harsh on you. But we can try and ensure you, you will be embraced with all the love and care you need. But you must promise me one thing, you will not give up on humans because we all are not the same. There are many who love you and would want to take care of you, let us be loyal to each other okay? We are going to embrace you till eternity. Time changes, and we do hope our mindset changes too. It will take time, and we know that you believe us. Are you willing to wait?
